After Infogrames yesterday dismissed EBGames.com's 2880811announcement that Unreal Tournament 2003 had gone gold as a rumor, Mark Rein of Epic Games has this morning confirmed in an Infogrames forum that at 5am ET the release version of the game was shipped to manufacturing.

Rein also stated that in the week that has elapsed since the 2880319demo was released, the team at Epic Games has been working around the clock to rid the game of bugs and implement suggestions made by players all around the world after they played the demo. In another area of the Infogrames forum, Steve Polge of Epic Games has posted a list of the gameplay tweaks concerning weapon balance and bot AI.

Unreal Tournament 2003 is still officially scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year. If that's still the case, it would mean that the game should be arriving in stores in the next week or so. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.
