Two Worlds 3 Announced, Two Worlds 2 Getting New Engine and More DLC

Third game to be developed over period of 36 months; new engine allows for "much higher level of character landscape detail."

Big news for the Two Worlds franchise, as publisher TopWare Interactive has announced that Two Worlds III is now in development, while Two Worlds II is getting new DLC and a "major" update to its engine.

TopWare made the announcement on Facebook this week. A third game in the Reality Pump-developed series should come as no real surprise, as the first two games have sold a combined 10 million units.

It is still early days for Two Worlds III, as it's in the "concept stage," TopWare said. It is expected to have a 36-month development schedule, and TopWare said fans should "keep an eye out" for more news later.

No Caption Provided

As for the other piece of Two Worlds news, TopWare has announced a "major engine update" for Two Worlds II, which it will use not only to "lay down the basics" for the third game, but also to release new DLC for Two Worlds II. The DLC will include eight new multiplayer maps and two single-player expansions, titled Call of the Tenebrae and Shattered Embrace.

Call of Tenebrae is set to come out at the end of Q2 2016. It "focuses on the Hero's return to Antaloor, where he witnesses the shocking murder of DarPha. The killers are a never-before-seen tribe of hideous, rat-like creatures known only as 'The Chosen.' who control a mysterious, powerful new magic. Their genocidal plot threatens every living creature in Antaloor, and it's up to the Hero to find a way to stop them."

Thanks to the new engine, players can "expect to experience Antaloor like never before with the new engine update for Two Worlds II."

The new Two Worlds engine, which will also be available for Linux and Steam OS, overall allows for a "much higher level of character landscape detail," TopWare said. It will also add "an HD-GUI, in addition to tons of in-game achievements, co-op multiplayer, and lots of new in-game features and upgrades."

For more on these new Two Worlds announcements, head to the Two Worlds website.

The latest mainline Two Worlds game, Two Worlds II, came out in 2011. You can read GameSpot's review here

Played the first one and personally didn't find it that good. Skipped the second, but maybe i'll give it a shot.

@iammcgruber: It ... wasn't much better. In Elder Scrolls wanna be terms, I'd say Two Worlds II was somewhere between Risen and Gothic III.

Maybe this remade, re-engined version will be better ... but I'd be sure to wait for a lot of reviews.

@Mogan: Two worlds 2 used an entirely new engine, the difference between games is like galaxies apart what do you mean no improvement

@dannydouble: I mean that I didn't think Two Worlds II was any better than the first game. Different problems, same level of enjoyment. Or, non-enjoyment, I guess; I didn't have much fun with either game.

Awesome! The original Two Worlds has such an "alive" world, things were just so connected to each other. Shame it was such a poor game.

Two Worlds 2, while I did not finish it, was a huuuuuuuuuge upgrade and much fun.

Looking forward to Two Worlds 3.

I find it difficult to believe that the Two Worlds games have sold 10 million units.

@walloftruth: I guess these games are big in Germany, considering we keep getting Risen sequels.

I never played these, but played all the Gothic and Risen games. Is Two Worlds as cheesy and clunky as those? I kinda have a soft spot for this type of RPG in a so bad they're good sort of way.

@mdinger: Two Worlds 2 was actually pretty damn polished compared to the Risen games, but yeah...still kind of cheesy. That is what happens when you want voice actors to dub a German game, but don't want to pay a lot.

My god, the voice acting on the Risen games was so awkward...

Two Worlds was terrible, Two Worlds 2 was less terrible.

They NEED to get much better writers for this 3rd one! Some cool ideas in the second one, but alot of aspects could have been so much better.

Got it super cheap in one of the GOG sales but still haven't gotten around to playing it. I wonder if the engine update will be free, maybe I should just wait for that if so.

WOW! The Fable series is just thrown away while the Two Worlds games just get to keep on truckin' along. Never could've seen that coming.

@ClintCommander: Fable hasn't been fable for awhile now. After fable 3 they stopped being Fable games and I can't remember the last person that said Fable legends was something they wanted.

@handheldhimself: well there are no fable games after fable III, that could possibly be why fable hasn't been fable for a while now lawl.

@masscrack: There was Fable: the Journey and then Fable legends.

neither games were anything close to fable like and only shared the Fable name that was it.

How do they keep making games for this series? These games are awful, broken, messes. They always say they're making it better and it's worse every time.

This has made my day, lol. TW2 was a flawed, but awsome game, more time and a better budget can make for a great 3rd game. Thought this ip was dead, I'm glad it's not.

They should just release single player DLC at this point, I doubt there's much of a MP community that's still active....even a week in when I decided to try the MP there were verhy few doing the competitive stuff and honestly the few people I came across i totally wrecked....there was one player who wrecked me but otherwise i was 30 wins 5 losses.....to that one player.....

I'm glad they're doing a third game....two Worlds may not be as epic or as loved as TES, DA or Witcher but it deserves it's place......

I kinda hope they bring back the Ye Olde English......I actually really liked that little quirk of the first game....

Hopefully the (melee) combat isn't such a piece of shyte after the engine upgrade..

I loved the original Two Worlds when it was released (open world games were pretty new then, and the damn thing had co-op too!), but the series really went downhill in my eyes.

Hopefully TW3 breaks the mold and sparks my interest in open world games again, but they've got a tough road ahead of them. We'll see in 3 years..

So I won't be picking this game up.

Hell YES! I tried two worlds before Oblivion I loved it flaws and all that being said I can't believe how bad the frame rate was but either way I loved it. I played online with friends whenever I had a chance it was so fun. I then picked up oblivion and was blown away at how realistic it was but I could not get into it closing the gates felts like a chore and the rest of the world was beautiful but I felt bored don't know why I prefer two worlds. Two worlds 2 was significantly improved in all aspects and I loved it I can't wait for the third hope they add more people online.

Ugh Two Worlds and Two Worlds II were probably two of the worst games I have ever played. They sold 10 million copies? 9,999,999 of them were sold back to Gamestop. Please spare us Two Worlds III; a game that will clearly end up being garbage. Just like its predecessors.

@darklordvyperx: I think most units were sold during seasonal Steam sales for under ten dollars. That's where I bought my copy of Two Worlds II.

It brought back distant memories of the NES "Heroes of the Lance" game, as far as being decent to look at but clunky as hell. It made Witcher combat mechanics seem fun.

This is the best news I've heard in years!
