Disney has released the first look for the third Tron film, officially titled Tron: Ares. The studio revealed that the film started production in January in Vancouver and is slated for release in 2025. It will be the follow-up to the 1982 classic and the cult-favorite Tron: Legacy from 2010.

"I'm excited to be part of the Tron franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world," director Joachim Rønning said in a statement. "Tron: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology, and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid."

Rønning has directed tentpole films for Disney before with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Tron: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission. This marks the first time humans have interacted with AI beings outside of the Grid. The image is someone in a red grid suit, which is a color we've definitely not seen them in. Blue, green, white, orange, and yellow have been featured the previous films.

The film stars Jared Leto (who also produces), Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, with Gillian Anderson.
