The second content season of Viking co-op survival action-RPG Tribes of Midgard is bearing down on players like Ragnarok, bringing a whole host of new changes when it drops on December 14. The new season marks the start of a new chapter in the game and brings a new boss for players to take on and a new biome to explore. Oh, and you can finally swim in the game, too.

The new season, dubbed Serpent Saga, will expand the game in much the same way the first season did, with players working their way across the biomes and completing tasks before challenging a new boss. Fenrir, the boss of the game's first season, Wolf Saga, is still in the game, however--and if you want to really push yourself, you can try to defeat both massive monsters in the same session.

Sailing the Open Seas biome is central to Season 2, so get ready to build some boats.

You're getting new tools to aid you in your battles, however. With Tribes of Midgard's second season comes new weapons you can earn and equip for your battles. The season also brings five new Runes to unlock, allowing you to further outfit your Viking for the struggles ahead.

Apart from what you can find to strengthen your character, the season also adds a new building to your Viking village with the Shipyard. Like other structures in your village, you'll need to work together with fellow players to rebuild the Shipyard--but once it's repaired, you'll gain the ability to construct boats for faster travel and more options for exploration in the new Open Seas biome. Boats are going to be essential in Season 2, it sounds like, because scattered throughout the new biome are islands to explore (and loot). You'll find merchants on those islands who can outfit you with new goods, and new types of enemies to battle, as well.

You don't have to have a vessel to take to the seas, however; in Season 2, you'll also be able to swim for the first time in Tribes of Midgard, meaning that waterways are no longer barriers to your ability to get around or escape enemies. Water won't stop you anymore, but your Viking's stamina gauge will determine how long you can keep yourself afloat, and you'll take damage if you stay in the water too long.

Along with the Serpent Saga content, Season 2 will also include Yulidays, a three-week holiday-themed event. Playing during the event gives players access to new cosmetics, a new pet, and additional rewards that can be earned by completing three limited-time Festive Challenges.

You'll explore a lot of islands in the Serpent Saga, and you shouldn't expect all the people you meet on them to be friendly.

Developer Norsfell also released an updated roadmap for Tribes of Midgard content into 2022, which will include a new saga boss variant for Season 2 akin to the alternate version of Fenrir it released in Season 1. Also on the docket in 2022 are additions to the game that include fishing and farming mechanics, player housing, and new mounts to ride into battle.

Serpent Saga launches on December 14, and is included with both the standard and deluxe editions of Tribes of Midgard--so if you've already bought the game, you're good, and if you choose to do so now, you'll get both seasons as part of the package.
