This New Image From Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Is Stunning

Ninja Theory has released a new image from Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, and it sure is remarkable. The image shows Senua as part of a "cinematic lighting experiment."

It is a stunning image that certainly lives up to the description of being cinematic. Whether or not this is what Senua will look like in the game remains to be seen, but this experiment shows a lot of promise and appeal that speaks to Ninja Theory's capabilities. The image is receiving near-universal praise in the replies.

Hellblade II uses Fortnite developer Epic's Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of the game-making toolsuite that promises incredible graphics and more. Microsoft said the use of this new engine will "bring the Hellblade franchise to levels never before seen."

The announcement trailer for Hellblade II that was released in December 2019 was also very impressive--it was captured in-engine and is meant to represent what the Xbox Series X is capable of. You can re-watch that video above.

Hellblade II is set in Iceland, which represents a shift from the first game, and the game is making some story changes, too.

"While Hellblade gave us a very personal insight into psychosis, this sequel builds on that to show how madness and suffering shapes myths, gods, and religion," Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades said. "Our goal is to make an experience comparable to the epic myths and sagas of old."

The original Hellblade was developed by a team of around 20 people, and Ninja Theory has said it's doubling the team size for the sequel after Microsoft acquired the studio.

There is no word yet on a release date for Hellblade II, but the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC presumably. It will be available to Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost.

This new image is just the latest impressive shot from a Ninja Theory project, as the studio also recently showcased some photo-realistic graphics for Project Mara.
