The Comic-Con news continues to roll out, and at its panel Marvel has just revealed a big piece of information about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Kurt Russell is playing Ego the Living Planet.

At the panel, Marvel gave a lengthy presentation about the upcoming follow-up to Guardians of the Galaxy, and the company revealed, among other things, that Russell will be assuming the role of Ego. Unfortunately, the footage that Marvel showed off has yet to be released to the public, but we do know a little about what Russell's character will be like in the film.

If you're familiar with the Marvel universe, you'll know that Ego the Living Planet is what his name suggests--a living planet. But he can also create and assume control of humanoid vessels, which is what he's done in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

In addition to this, Ego the Living Planet is also somehow the father of the film's main character, Star-Lord (AKA Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt). It's not yet clear how that works.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 launches on May 5, 2017. You can check out all the Marvel news from Comic-Con here, and the convention's biggest news here. Keep an eye on our Comic-Con hub for more news today and tomorrow.
