Ahead of Sony's PlayStation Experience event this week, a new PlayStation 4 game has been revealed. Called Bound, this is the mysterious project that God of War developer Sony Santa Monica was teasing earlier this week. The game is in development at Plastic, the studio behind Linger In Shadows and Datura.

Bound aims to be "quite unique in visual style, narrative storytelling, and also mechanics," game director Michal Staniszewski said in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

"Bound is a 3D platformer designed for people with the desire to concentrate on the narrative side of games and experience a mature story," he added. "On the other side of the spectrum, Bound is also being prepared for hardcore gamers looking for the challenge of one big puzzle that can be only solved by a community of players working together."

Staniszewski added: "We are going to deliver a 'notgame' to you, which is also a game. It's up to you to decide how you would like to play."

As you'll see in the screenshots and video here, the art style for Bound takes inspiration from movements like Suprematism, Concretism, Neoplasticism, and the works of Bauhaus. These movements have not been explored much in games to date, Staniszewski said.

The main character of Bound is a ballerina (now that teaser makes more sense) whose actions were captured through a motion-capture process from the real world dancer Maria Udod. The game's music, meanwhile, aims to mix ballet and electroacoustic tunes that were performed by Oleg "Heinali" Shpudeiko.

In terms of resolution and performance, Bound will run at an "ultra-sharp anti-aliased" 60 FPS in 1080p.

"We have spent more than a year on optimizations, just to deliver you a game that will squeeze the most of your PS4," Staniszewski said.

Bound is being produced in collaboration with Sony Santa Monica. No release date was announced, but we may learn more about PlayStation Experience this weekend.
