@Moegitto Bullshit, that was a rumor just floating about that is now pretty much absolute since info has been leaked regarding that subject saying that it won't be always online or anything like that because of those who don't have internet access. Peddle your bullshit propaganda elsewhere and quit being an asshat.

@Meta_Dragon A lot of people have PC's for a lot of things, but they also have Smart TV's, and other media boxes. Plus, you can counter that by saying, "I don't need a gaming console, I have a PC for that".

@Synthia This "rumor" has already been pretty thoroughly debunked. As far as "online authentication", many of the indie games on XBLA already require online authentication to play (I've personally purchased a few of the lower cost games aimed at children for my kids). It's not that big of a deal. Can you play WoW, Rift, or any other MMO when the servers or your internet are down? No. There is a difference between "entire console requires connection to work at all" and "some games require connection". The argument about this (non-existant) issue conflates those 2 situations.

The new XBox will clearly not require a constant internet connection to function. Some games will, but we already live in a world of that sort, so what's the complaint? Just don't buy them. One cannot construct a decent argument against online connectivity requirements in general based on a few anecdotal instances. SimCity and Diablo server issues were, albeit unfortunate, temporary issues.

I don't think it's correct to read so much into a statement like Gallowhand's. Some folks simply aren't comfortable with that arrangement. But there are situations where such an approach is at least plausible if not justified (like your little indie game for 80 MSP using the XBLA verification system instead of spending the money and resources to code it yourself). Like most burgeoning trends in game development, it has its place and uses and is not inherently evil as long as its used judiciously.

@SIDEFX1 @NbAlIvEr10000 Not sure if you knew what I meant..... the event was great; the stream quality was shit. The stream would freeze and the quality would crap out from time to time. They even mentioned they were having problems streaming the video live.

@LukeWesty They will, for some reason they will "unveil" CoD: Ghosts and others on the 21st.
