The Wonder Years Reboot Is In The Works With A Black Family

A classic American TV show, The Wonder Years starring a young Fred Savage, is getting rebooted. ABC Has announced that it's making a new version of the comedy, but this time it will focus on a Black family. The original show, which took place in the '60s, featured a white family in suburban America.

The new version of The Wonder Years is being produced by Empire co-creator Lee Daniels, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ABC is said to have agreed to fund a pilot, and a writers room will be assembled once the network approves the script.

The new Wonder Years show is aiming to be on TV for the 2021-2022 season.

This new version of Wonder Years will follow a middle-class Black family from Montgomery, Alabama in the '60s. It will examine how the family also experienced "the wonder years," but not in the same way that the white family did from the original show.

The Big Bang Theory's Saladin K. Patterson is writing the script for the pilot. Neal Marlens, who co-created the original Wonder Years, is a consultant on the new version.

Fred Savage, meanwhile, will direct some episodes and produce. The original Wonder Years ran for six years from 1988 to 1993.
