The Shire from Lord of the Rings Remade in Minecraft With Stunning Detail

A team of builders has spent almost a year working on this amazing creation.

A new user-made Minecraft world deserves to be right up there with some of the best ever made in the open-ended sandbox PC game. A team of 25 builders spent close to one year re-creating The Shire from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings franchise, and the results are stunning.

Uploaded on Imgur, The Shire worldmap is at a 1:58 scale. It is "arguably one of the most detailed and well-researched maps ever made in the game," reads a line from the description. We would agree.

Click through the images in the gallery above to see The Shire as you've never seen it before. You'll see more than just Hobbiton and Bag-End. The builders created block versions of Bywater Lane, Sackville, Woodhall, Stock, Whitewell, Farmer Maggot's farmyard, Greenfields, and more.

"As well as researching old farming techniques, we make sure that we adhere to geological and botanical realism in our terrain," the builders explained. "As one of our admins is a professional geologist, we are able to put a great deal of expertise into it."

Head to Imgur to see all the amazing images. What do you make of this? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I don't see how anyone can mention Minecraft and Stunning Detail in the same sentence with a straight face.

Wonder what would have taken more time, to make it in minecraft or make it in a proper 3d developer engine, made for map making, maybe make it look realistic even, perhaps.

Dont really see how some people think a bunch of ugly blocks is so picturesque. Looks gross to me but just my opinion.

If you don't like minecraft, you'll probably only see the blocks and not everything else that's gone into making this

@duke_cakewalker: Agreed, post processor effects over blocks does not change the fact that they are blocks.

My son got me hooked. We spend hours LANning the crap out of Vanilla Minecraft, switching between Survival and Creative modes. We hardly enter the Nether too.

The plus side is that I recognized the redstone part of it as a very basic introduction into how gates work in coding.

@Yams1980: For me it was more like fun for 1-2 years, when it still was pretty new, but mods were also readily available the second year. Later on it was forgotten as friends moved on, and well now I just to wait for No Man's Sky.

@Yams1980 : I have to agree. The game is beautiful, but once you've grasped the concept, even building ''pretty things'' gets boring. You get wood in order to craft tools in order to mine minerals, in order to replace your tools because they break, until you get the diamond tools and weapons.

Yes it's beautiful, the piano ''soundtrack'' is nice, the landscape can make nostalgia resurface and make you feel things. But it does get boring.

@xolivierx: It's a survival game. If you don't like that type of stuff you probably won't like minecraft. I love playing it from time to time. Once I start I get hooked and can't play much else for months though. I love building a place to live, hunting for food/making a farm, mining for resources to get better tools, getting lost in the woods and trying to fight my way back home at night, hunting enders for their eyes and ultimately building an enchanted arsenal good enough to travel to the depths of the enderworld to fight the massive enderdragon.

That's why I love minecraft. So much freedom and an incredible world to try to survive in.

@merimack: too true, though just bee busy. Time to time I plug away at my quest trying to make it through the day, hidden away from creepers. Great when you have friends to visit your world or you visit their world.

CAN'T WAIT for Morpheus to play this game. ..... SO not so sad that its on hiatus for now. though time to time when my kids play I join in.

@merimack : I was about to post some smartass comment but I didn't fully read your post. Yes, the game is addictive. I don't know how many nights I've spent trying to find the perfect spot to build a special home with a beautiful landscape. I just wish there was more to it.

A good example would be Terraria. IF Minecraft had more elements similar to Terraria, I would always be playing Minecraft.

@deathwish026: There's already resources in project spark that look like they're from the shire, so it would be perfect.

You could add in all the characters if you used project spark also.

@whatsazerg: Because then you get tied down by a woman and at that point, there's very little time to pursue hobbies or anything else fun.
