The Settlers developer getting Fit in Six

Blue Byte prepping Ubisoft workout game for March release on PS3 and Wii; version for Sony's system to feature additional downloadable routines.

In its 22 years of existence, German developer Blue Byte has developed a reputation for PC strategy games, including The Settlers, Dawn of Discovery, and Battle Isle series. However, the studio is flexing different creative muscles for its next project, a fitness game for the PlayStation 3 and Wii.

Fit in Six might be a stretch for PC strategy game studio Blue Byte.
Fit in Six might be a stretch for PC strategy game studio Blue Byte.

Ubisoft today announced Blue Byte as the developer of Fit in Six, a new fitness title built around the PlayStation Move and Wii Remote motion-sensing controllers. The game contains a variety of different workout routines, each focusing on one of a half-dozen areas of fitness: cardio, balance, flexibility, upper body, core body, and lower body.

The Wii version of the game will use Ubisoft's own USB camera accessory, which it debuted in 2009 with another fitness title, Your Shape Featuring Jenny McCarthy. The add-on will give players a picture-in-picture view in the game so they can compare their form to that of the in-game coach.

Players on Sony's system will also be able to use their own music for the workouts. The publisher said the game will analyze a user's playlist and suggest songs with a rhythm to suit the workout in question. Additionally, PS3 players will be able to download add-ons through the PlayStation Network.

Fit in Six is set for release in March. The Wii version will be available as a stand-alone title or bundled with Ubisoft's USB camera.

I have this for the Move and I love it! I actually just started seeing results this week and lost about 3lbs.

What a disappointing change in Blue Byte's operations. Little wonder that Ubisoft did not roll back the DRM for Settlers VII - it probably just doesn't care about that franchise anymore.

Yeah, if you want a fitness experiance these days you have to go with Kinect. My wife and I used Wii Fit for a while and it was ok but easily cheated (yes I get tired and lazy like the rest of the planet). But with Kinect almost every game is a bit of a workout, and Fitness Evolved kicks my but and I sweat like a mad man every workout. If you want to be active and get in a good workout, Kinect is the way too go.
