The Nintendo Switch Online Service Will Require a Paid Subscription
Free to try after launch with paid subscriptions starting in fall.
Nintendo has revealed details about the Nintendo Switch online service, which will be available via a free trial after the console's launch. The service supports online multiplayer and will require a paid subscription starting fall 2017.
The company gave initial information about Switch's online capabilities during the January 12 Nintendo Switch Presentation. There will be a compatible smartphone application available summer 2017 that can connect to Switch's online service, and you will be able to invite friends to play, schedule game sessions, and chat with friends through the app. Subscribers will also get access to a free game each month.
Nintendo has not stated how much the online subscription will cost.
Nintendo Switch is launching March 3 and will cost $299.
