The Matrix 4 Adds A Fan Favorite Actor To The Cast

Following the news that Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will appear in the upcoming Matrix 4, another high profile actor has joined the cast. According to reports, Neil Patrick Harris will star alongside Keanu Reeves, and Carrie-Ann Moss in the sci-fi sequel.

The news comes via Variety. No details about the part Harris will play have been revealed, and nothing is known about the movie's storyline, beyond the fact that Reeves and Moss will reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity from the original Matrix films. Harris is best known for the long-running comedy How I Met Your Mother as well as movies such as Gone Girl and Starship Troopers.

The Matrix 4 will be directed by Lana Wachowski, who helmed the previous three Matrix movies with sister Lilly. The first reports of a new Matrix movie emerged in 2017, and in May this year, there were conflicting reports about whether it was happening or not. The movie was officially announced in August, and although it does not yet have a confirmed release date, it is expected to start shooting in early 2020.

The first Matrix movie brought in $463.5 million worldwide, and it spawned two sequels: 2003's Matrix Reloaded--grossing $742.1 million worldwide--and Matrix Revolutions--taking in $427.3 million worldwide. The franchise has earned more than $1.6 billion in total.
