HBO's The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has spoken up about the criticism and hostility surrounding the series' "gay storylines," saying those who don't watch are missing out.

In a recent GQ Magazine interview, Ramsey reflected on the aired episodes of the series, touching on Episode 3, which featured Bill and Frank's love story, saying that they were, "on the verge of tears throughout it, and cried at the bit in the montage when they got married." The actor also talked about the future of the series and what playing an older Ellie, derived from The Last of Us Part 2, would be like, as well as the possibility of exploring the romantic relationship between Ellie and Dina.

Ramsey went on to discuss the hostility towards the queer stories in the show--as Episode 3 was review-bombed soon after it aired despite critical success--and was asked whether there was any apprehension when it comes to Ellie's future storyline from the second game, to which they said, "I'm not particularly anxious about it."

"I know people will think what they want to think. But they’re gonna have to get used to it. If you don’t want to watch the show because it has gay storylines, because it has a trans character, that’s on you, and you’re missing out.

"It isn’t gonna make me afraid," Ramsey added. "I think that comes from a place of defiance."
