Sony will be showing The Getaway: Black Monday, at E3 2004. The upcoming PS2 sequel to last year's gritty action game will take place in an enhanced version of the 25-square-mile model version of London, England used last year, with 17 major landmarks added, including the Thames River and the London subway system. The game's story takes place two years after the events in the original game; apparently, a simple bank heist goes horribly wrong, leading both cops and robbers into a heated war. You'll be able to choose one of three playable characters, Mitch, Eddie, and Sam, each of whom will have different abilities and different reasons for involving themselves in the story. These and other characters will be represented onscreen by a cast of more than 20 actors who posed for an all-new set of motion-captured animations.

Like the previous game, The Getaway will feature both driving and on-foot gameplay, though the new game will have an all-new variety of vehicles to steal and drive, including buses, taxi cabs, and motorcycles. In order to complete the game, you'll play through a total of 22 missions, though the game will feature a branching narrative with multiple endings. In keeping with the game's gritty, cinematic feel, the game will feature enhanced physics for both its drivable vehicles and its characters, who will have full facial animations and rag-doll death animations.

The Getaway: Black Monday is scheduled for release later this year.
