The Division's Nerfs Have Upset Fox News

Andy Levy is not happy.

Andy Levy, host of Fox News' Red Eye, has a bone to pick with Ubisoft' Massive, the developer of The Division. His gripe with changes to the game was snuck into a segment discussing the skills every 18-year-old needs to have to navigate college life and beyond, as posited by former Stanford University Dean Julie Lythcott-Haims. Watch the video below (via VG247).

While recounting these skills, which include the ability to manage workload, have good interpersonal skills, and manage money, Levy dropped dropped in this golden zinger: "Be able to gear up your character in The Division despite the way Massive nerfed the crafting system and allows packs of super-geared Rogues to gank you in the Dark Zone--thanks a lot. Jerks."

It's safe to say this is one Fox News opinion we can all get behind. We feel you, Andy, we feel you.

The Division has been going through a particularly rough patch lately, as bugs impacting the rate at which special loot is acquired and damage calculation were discovered.

Falcon Lost, The Division's first raid, was found to contain a flaw that allowed players to acquire high-level items at a rate much faster than intended. Ubisoft has since deployed a fix for the Falcon Lost exploit.

The damage glitch, meanwhile, let players dramatically increase the power of weapons by equipping the Competent talent. The talent is supposed to increase weapon damage by only 13 percent for 10 seconds after using a skill, but by switching between two weapons rapidly for about 5-10 minutes damage would skyrocket. This was also addressed in a recent update.

The last major update for The Division was released on April 12. It introduced a number of features and the raid-like Incursion. A second free update, Conflicts, is coming in May, while paid expansions will follow later.

Probably the only thing I can agree on with Fox News. Hahaahaha that was awesome, he better have his own segment bitching about the game's updates.

He is right though, that just gives players who played 24/7 an advantage over those who can play in small amounts of time but still want to feel competitive. This needs to be fixed. I mean even the weekly assignments are a joke, due to the rewards. Let's hope Ubisoft makes some better changes soon.

@Ice-Cube: Except you know, incursion gear sets coming out to even that playing field and increased damage to insane levels since nothing defensive was added. have ult=win, dont have ult=die

I think that's the first piece of accurate reporting I have ever seen on Fox News.

Remember when "oh snap! He just closed the door!" happened... And then the game launches and everyone was like "meh; it's decent"

Nobody cares about Fox News opinions right or wrong, but it does bring to light the disappointments the game has brought with it. And apparently it's not over. another trip and stumble for the industry of online games.

I dunno...that game just seems to me to be a hot buttery turd, speckled with exploits and cheats/cheaters instead of corn.

It's going to be amusing watching Overblown and Battleboring succumb to the same thing. Competetive MP pretty much guarantees that cheaters turn a game into poop at this point and it seems almost all developers don't give enough of a crap to spend time hacking their own software and trying to find exploits/cheats to prevent it from happening right from launch, thereby skewing the entire game experience for everyone forever.

@esqueejy: I guess the concept of practicality and common sense kind of escapes you. Since when has there *NOT* been an online multiplayer game that hasn't been full of hackers and cheaters?? Is the Pope Catholic? Get real. This isn't any different than multiplayer games since their inception.

Furthermore, expecting a developer to find/identify/fix every single possible exploit/cheat available in their software is a completely ridiculous notion. They have finite resources and time constraints that they are dealing with. If you have five people working on something, inevitably, when you release that something to 5 MILLION people, you're bound to reveal some things that were overlooked.

Stop being silly.

@otterbee: "This isn't any different than multiplayer games since their inception."

Point to where I said that it is. You're reacting as if I said that, but I did not...nor did I imply it. Rather, you're sensitive to the criticism I levied, so you read that into it and then vomited your butthurt onto the intertubes. In fact, it is precisely because this shit has become standard operating procedure for so long that I'm irritated with it and avoid games like this most of the time. Just because it's become an industry practice doesn't mean it is excusable or justified.

"Furthermore, expecting a developer to find/identify/fix every single possible exploit/cheat available in their software is a completely ridiculous notion."

I never said that was my expectation either. Exploits and cheats like what have shown up for this game and some others like Destiny, however, were almost instantly found. Instantly. This suggests it was easily and readily identifiable and, therefore, the developer engaged in extremely poor QA testing. While I'm tempted to call your 5-to-5M ratio hyperbole, perhaps that's actually the case, which suggests they're not spending anywhere near enough resources on these things. Instead, they shit out half-assed products to meet arbitrary deadlines from their publishers, relying on the stupidity and gullibility of the consumer to accept a shoddy product that takes weeks of patching to bring it up to anywhere near where it should've been on release. We're not talking about balance tweaks and minor glitches here. We're talking about game-breaking exploits immediately latched onto by the players and which should never have been allowed to exist, let alone survive beta and QA tests prior to launch.

Hahahahaha!

This reminds me way back when Mass Effect 3's ending was still fresh in everyone's nightmares, I attended a philosophy lecture for the fun of it and the lecturer himself, after giving his lecture on some local philosopher whose life ended in the worst way possible for him (He impaled his willy on a fence or something way out like that, I can't remember the details), the lecturer ended it off with "at least it didn't end as bad as Mass Effect 3" and spent the next five minutes absolutely wrecking the game like his masters in Philosophy was earned just for this moment.

It was a hilarious sight, half the class doesn't even play games and they walked out thinking "what the hell Bioware?"

I'm sure the gamers that discovered these glitches are not smart enough to actually figure out how to get the exploits to happen in the first place. Discovering them on Youtube or word of mouth and then deliberately exploiting them is one thing. I'm almost afraid to play these always online MMO's (at least outside of the purer, single player experience) because if you accidentally discover a glitch and don't even realize it, you could potentially get banned or punished somehow.

@bobafetthatesu: Nah, you only get banned if you brutally exploit it. A one off thing is no big deal. I've accidentally triggered some really nasty exploits in WoW.

I've just been playing the game solo and staying out of Dark Zone altogether. There is plenty to enjoy while I wait for them to fix issues and balance everything. I hate playing games that go through constant nerfs and buffs and patches - it just ruins the flow of the game. Diablo 3 was the worst for that. Get a decent build that finally works and BAM! build is nerfed and you have to start all over again. I've no patience for that kind of crap anymore. I'll do my own thing in single player campaign until they get their crap together.

@bdrtfm: that's what i did. 'til i hit level 30, finished all missions, found all those collectibles.. now i'm just trying to up my damage so i could one-hit elite enemies with headshots.. but it's really hard to do with a crappy internet, i keep getting bombarded with delta, mike, and echo errors.. and if it's not that, there's the bullet hit detection lag.. it ruins the experience.. i just wish there's an offline mode for those who don't want the multiplayer side of it

@bdrtfm: I get what you're saying about Diablo 3, but at the same time, when you're a player that spends a lot of time in the game, at some point you get the perfect gear for your character and there's basically nothing else to do anymore. So switching things around kinda makes sense.

I'm definitely not into The Division. The MMO and bullet-sponge thing turned me down. Never actually tried the game, maybe one day when it's on the bargain bin.

@doublem-k: Usually, Fox News is only laughable, but this time they actually made me laugh. Especially funny that he uses so many phrases you wouldn't expect to hear from a news anchor, like nerfed, super-geared and ganked. It's like he's really into it.

I have pretty good Gear as do the rest of the squad I play with and we haven't been killed in ages by any Rogues .. Its easy to kill most people who go Rogue anyway .. We did accidentally go rogue when someone walked in front of a teammate while shooting but we didn't kill the guy we just walked off .. The Same guys who go Rogue have a choice not to and vice versa ... Which is what the Game is about .. yeah if my team went rogue we'd probably take a lot to beat but we don't the Game gives you that choice !!

@RicanV: A few? For me it's quite a few:

- Hardcoded keyboard binds (PC).

- Solo-unfriendly TK-encouraging griefer-fest ("rogue" system aka confused PvP+PvE mashup).

- Missions that won't allow solo players to play.

- Terrible SP "campaign".

- UPlay (PC).

- Lack of offline play for non-DZ areas (game is bricked once Ubisoft pulls plug on their servers).

- IP broadcast to clients in region.

Those are just the few I copied & pasted from my recollection earlier on another site, I'm sure there's more.

This game isn't worth anywhere near $60.

@mr_nee: the game doesn't need more pvp modes. Just adjust what is currently in place.

Maybe add a title system based on rogue/non hostile kills. A system where you get more rewards for higher value targets.

This doesn't need tdm or ctf. There are 47 other games out there for that.

"This doesn't need tdm or ctf. There are 47 other games out there for that." Agreed, that's why i quit this game long ago, now can i get my money back?

Andy Levy is not the host of Red Eye.

Red Eye is a satirical show and not an actual news show.
