[UPDATE] The $700 SpongeBob Xbox Series X went up for sale earlier today through the Best Buy mobile app and has now sold out.

The original story follows below.

Microsoft has announced the latest custom Xbox Series X design, but it's probably not what you expect and it no doubt costs much more than you might be willing to pay. Microsoft has partnered with Best Buy to offer the console through the Best Buy mobile app for the price of $700 (yes, that is correct).

The system, which features SpongeBob's smiling face, also comes with a controller featuring a collage of images of SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Gary, Mr. Krabs, and Plankton. Microsoft is releasing the custom Xbox as a promotion for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, which launched in November 2023. Microsoft also offered a SpongeBob Xbox in 2021 for the launch of the first game, but that was only for a giveaway--this one you can actually buy (maybe).

A "limited supply" of the SpongeBob Xbox consoles will be available to buy starting at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET on Thursday, March 7 through the Best Buy mobile app for shoppers in the US. The bundle comes with the console, the controller, and a digital copy of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2.

The Smash Bros.-like fighting game features a roster of Nickelodeon characters who duke it out for supremacy. If you've ever wondered who would win in a fight--Nigel Thornberry or Squidward--well, now you can find out. The game's newest DLC, featuring Mr. Krabs, launched in mid-February.

GameSpot's Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 review scored the game a 7/10. Reviewer Jason Fanelli said, "Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a marked improvement over the previous game, with a solid fighting system, fun new ways to play, and a varied roster of characters from throughout Nickelodeon's history."
