TGS 2005: Bomberman: Act Zero Impressions

Xbox 360 trailer montage at TGS gives us first glimpse of next-gen Bomberman.

TGS 2005: Not all of the games being shown at this year's Tokyo Game Show are present in playable form, and some of the trailers are so brief and noncommittal that you can't help but wonder if the game even exists in anything other than a design document at this point. One such game is Bomberman: Act Zero, which appears for all of five or six seconds during the Xbox 360 trailer montage being shown on a giant screen at Microsoft's booth.

The beautifully rendered teaser trailer shows a slightly evil-looking bomberman, dressed all in black, leaping toward the front of the screen and then pausing for a moment as a huge explosion behind him throws debris up into the air. And that's it. The trailer certainly looks great, but it tells us absolutely nothing about the game save for the fact that, like its predecessors, it'll have bombs in it. Who'd have guessed?

It's conceivable, of course, that Bomberman: Act Zero could take the form of a gritty third-person action game. It seems more likely, though, that the trailer is just a great piece of eye candy that's loosely based on a top-down, maze-based multiplayer game in which you attempt to blow up your friends with bombs. We look forward to letting you know what Hudson has planned for Bomberman's next outing just as soon as we get more information.
