Tekken 7 Free DLC Coming Soon; Get An Early Look At The New Costume Sets

Latest installment in the hit fighting franchise celebrates its one-year anniversary.

9 Comments

Tekken 7 came out nearly a year ago, and now developer Bandai Namco is celebrating its one-year anniversary by releasing free DLC that will be "packed with content." The free DLC will release May 31, and you can check out an early preview of a few of the costumes in the screens below.

While Bandai Namco says this particular expansion will be a big one, Tekken 7 has been continually supported with add-on content. The game has unveiled several crossover characters over the past year, including Fatal Fury's Geese Howard and Final Fantasy XV's Noctis, the latest addition to the game. The game also received a full DLC pack last August, which added Ultimate Tekken Bowl to the game (for those who'd rather bowl than brawl). Unlike this pack, all of the previous DLC cost extra or required you to buy the $25 Tekken 7 Season Pass.

When it released last year, Tekken 7 was regarded as a great sequel in a much-loved fighting game franchise. Despite server issues at the time of launch, it sold well while following many of Tekken's time-tested gameplay traditions. In GameSpot's Tekken 7 review, Peter Brown said it was an easy game to recommend, thanks to its dozens of unique fighting styles and mix of melodrama and slapstick comedy. "Its diverse roster is packed with a wide range of personalities and fighting styles, bolstered by a raucous attitude that begs to be taken seriously while simultaneously mocking its more peculiar whims in the process," he wrote.

"Tekken fans will find their next favorite game--one that's the product of decade's worth of refinement. And while some of this depth will be lost or out of reach for newcomers, there's enough fun to be had outside of hardcore competition to keep players from all walks of gaming thoroughly entertained."

One year and it still doesn't have Lei Wulong. I know it sounds shallow, but I refuse to buy the game unless they add him. That and the story mode was crap.

@dacontag: Don't consider it shallow at all!! I felt the exact same along with the Story mode and the cheap, crappy and ridiculously short mini story arcs that the rest of the roster got.

Seriously how is it that TTT2 a game which was essentially a fan service/celebration game with virtually every character you could think of managed to give each character proper CG endings and this game couldn't?

@dacontag:

I ended up trading this game in. It was unbalanced. the story mode was crap and yes no Lei (aka Jackie Chan) How they did not include him is beyond me. I also didn't like Maser Raven in place of Raven...they should have just called her Eagle or something. Still her moveset was not as good.

@TightNinja: Unbalanced? This is probably the most balanced Tekken ever - all characters are viable even at high level which can be seen at tournaments.
The only reasonable criticism is the lack of Lei, no idea why he isnt in the game.

@iskaroth:

Katarina is the most unbalanced player I have ever used in a 3D fighting game. Press Y 5x to take 80% of someones health. I would catch nearly everyone online somersault kick launch then press Y 5x. Match over. It was lame. Even playing offline with friends it was like the sweep from MK 1 and 2. Perhaps they have fixed it but I never stuck around to find out. No excuse for missing Lei minus 2 points for that alone.

I also really enjoyed the Scenario Campaign and ESPECIALLY the Co-op campaign from Tekken 6. It was like playing the old school beat em up. Plus the stat bonuses custom clothing added a ton of replay value. I always thought someone should make a beat em up from using the Mo Cap animations from Tekken, DOA and VF. Closest we ever got was Urban Reign on PS2 and it was more of an arena fighter.

@TightNinja: "Katarina is the most unbalanced player I have ever used in a 3D fighting game." - ok, as i suspected youre a terrible player, probably unranked or Green rank at most. Katarina isnt bad but not even high tier and nowhere near to chars like Dragunov, Xiao or Devil Jin.

@iskaroth: You just proved my point :) The game is unbalanced in comparison to previous Tekken's

Let's say I am a terrible player and a complete noob and unranked.. Then why was I destroying people onilne and off with a low tier character by pressing Y over and over?

It felt like I was cheating using a Game Genie/Shark or something.

@iskaroth: Well the game also has hitbox issues. And a broken stage.(From what I've heard from hardcore players on forums)
