Take-Two CEO Thinks Photorealism In Games Isn't Too Far Off

Graphics in games are already impressive, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes it's only going to get even better. During the UBS Global TMT Virtual Conference (via Gamesindustry.biz), Zelnick said he expects photorealism to be possible within the next decade.

"And I can't quite say what that will involve, but I think what you're going to see is technology will allow our creative folks to do things they've never been able to do before, including make games that look exactly like live-action," he stated. "Some of what we do now looks a lot like live-action, but it's still animation. In 10 years, you'll have the option if you want to make things that look completely realistic, all done inside a computer, never mind all the other advances technology will enable."

He also spoke with general optimism about the business side of games too, nodding to the widespread possession of smartphones as a factor that will affect future business developments. "I'm guessing [Take-Two's] business in ten years looks very different than it does today in the same way that it looks very different today than it did ten years ago when there was no mobile business and no recurrent consumer spending," Zelnick commented.

As of May, Take-Two reportedly has 93 games in development. Take-Two and Rockstar haven't officially stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 is among the sea of new titles, but according to Kotaku's April article, the game is supposedly in development. Fans hungry for the next GTA title have also supposedly spotted a GTA 6 teaser in a new Grand Theft Auto Online trailer.
