Challenging a perfect and immortal machine is going to take a little longer.

Originally scheduled to release in March, the upcoming remake of System Shock will instead launch two months later on PC, arriving on May 30. According to publisher Plaion, the March launch window wasn't within reach, hence the long-in-development game being rescheduled to the end of May.

"We had hoped to bring the game to market by the end of March," Plaion explained on the Steam page for System Shock. "But that turned out to be just beyond our reach. We are after all merely human, unlike Shodan!"

The remake of the cult-classic 1994 game includes upgraded visuals, enhanced music, and new enemies to tangle with, as well as an overhauled hacking system and even a dismemberment system that looks like it was inspired by Dead Space's gory gameplay.

Developer Nightdive Studios will also release System Shock on console, and is aiming to bring the game to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One at a later date. On PC, the game can be preordered through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.

The new release date leaves System shock facing some stiff competition, as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is scheduled to arrive on May 26, Street Fighter 6 launches on June 2, and Diablo IV launches on June 6.
