Sony's Madame Web flopped at the box office. One of its stars, Sydney Sweeney, has now responded to the film's dismal performance, and she doesn't sound too fazed by it.

"I was just hired as an actress in it, so I was just along for the ride for whatever was going to happen," Sweeney told The Los Angeles Times.

That's all she had to say on the subject. Sweeney played Julia Cornwall/Spider-Woman in Madame Web alongside Dakota Johnson as Madame Web herself.

Johnson also responded to the movie flopping, saying the finished product was "completely different" from what she signed on for. She also called out filmmaking "by committee."

"Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullshit. Even if films start to be made with AI, humans aren't going to f*cking want to see those," she said. "I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don't make sense in that world."

To date, Madame Web has earned less than $100 million worldwide at the box office. The movie was estimated to have cost $80 million to produce, and that doesn't include marketing expenses.

Madame Web is part of Sony's Spider-Man universe. The company's next release from the Spider-Man universe is Venom: The Last Dance, which releases this October.
