Who needs Superman when you could have the Green Lantern?

Though Krypton takes place long before the birth of Superman on a distant planet far from Earth, Syfy is still making sure there are pieces of the DC Universe for comic book fans to recognize. Beyond that, the series is also planning to open up its scope even more to include familiar places and faces.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Krypton executive producer David S. Goyer teased the possibility of characters like the Green Lantern Corps and Omega Man eventually appearing on the series. "The deal with the show is it's kind of this gateway into the DC science fiction universe," he says. "Because also the Phantom Zone figures into this show, it means we can delve into other times and planets eventually." Adds DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns, "Any of these characters could eventually show up."

Now Playing: Krypton - Official Trailer #1

According to Goyer, "Even the inclusion of Adam Strange, that should tip you off that it's not just going to be on Krypton." Shaun Sipos plays Strange in the series, as the character from Earth travels back in time to Krypton in an effort to save the House of El.

That said, Goyer tells GameSpot that the depictions of known characters on Krypton "will [skew] a bit closer to canon" than you might see on some other DC TV shows, like The Flash, Arrow, and Gotham. So chances are you're never going to see a little kid Superman fighting with little kid Lex Luthor.

Still, it's always possible Superman could appear on the show at some point, given how heavily time travel factors in. As Goyer says, "The door is always open." Krypton premieres March 21 on Syfy.
