As reported by Deadline, The Tick is one of three shows that will receive full seasons in 2017, the others being comedies I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson. Amazon aired pilot episodes last month as part of its annual pilot season, where the popularity of potential shows is tested on audiences and critics. This year, the company has chosen to pick up all three shows.

The Tick stars Guardians of the Galaxy's Peter Serafinowicz as the antennae-spouting cult superhero of the title. He was joined in the pilot by Watchmen star Jackie Earl Haley, playing the villainous Terror, and the episode was directed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister.

The Tick was created by Ben Edlund and first appeared in 1986 as a spoof of superheroes, initially in a comic strip before heading up his own title in 1988. Edlund also wrote the pilot episode.

This will be the third time the character has been adapted for TV. In the mid-90s he featured in an animated series, while a live-action show was broadcast on Fox in 2001. Although that only lasted nine episodes, it received strong reviews and has since gained a cult following. A video game was also released in 1994.
