Super Smash Bros. Wii U Sells 2 Million in US, 3DS Version Hits 3 Million

Nintendo has announced some standout sales statistics from the month of June 2016 in the US.

First, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U passed 2 million sales, while the 3DS version surpassed 3 million copies sold. Worldwide, the game sold 4.8 million units on Wii U as of March 31, while the 3DS edition shifted 8.12 million copies for the same time frame globally.

In other Nintendo software sales news, the company reported that the physical version of Minecraft for Wii U landed in the No. 11 position on the NPD Group's best-seller list. Additionally, Kirby: Planet Robobot was the No. 4 game of June 2016 in the US.

The full list will be released by NPD next Thursday, July 21.

In other news, the E3 surprise-release, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, performed well. Nintendo said the game pushed "straight to the top of the Nintendo eShop charts, where it stayed for most of the month."

On the hardware side, Nintendo reported that weekly sales of 3DS family systems (including the 3DS and 2DS), maintained an average weekly sales increase of 39 percent over May. The 2DS dropped in price to $80 in the US during May.
