Super Meat Boy for iOS to be remade from scratch

Team Meat reveals first look at Super Meat Boy: The Game for iOS; confirms mobile version has been reworked "from the ground up."

Super Meat Boy developer Team Meat has officially revealed an iOS version of the popular indie platformer, announcing the game will be completely remade for touch-screen devices.

The game is titled Super Meat Boy: The Game, and the developers revealed that the iOS version will be a feature-length touch-control platformer "specifically" designed for touch devices and will feature brand-new art and sound.

In February this year, Team Meat--Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes--announced they had begun work on a prototype of the popular indie platformer for touch devices. At the time, the duo was still unsure if a mobile version of Super Meat Boy would eventuate.

McMillen and Refenes announced they would be going ahead with an iOS version of the game on the official Team Meat blog this weekend.

"It will not be a sh***y port of an existing game with non-tactile buttons spread all over the screen blocking the players view and making for frustrating controls," the duo stated on the blog.

No release date for Super Meat Boy: The Game has yet been announced.

@burgeg Sure, because it's so hard to put one analog stick, and 2 buttons on a Iphone Screen ¬¬'. For me this is one kind of game that would look fantastic on a IOS device, looking forward to it.

Super Meat Boy without buttons......yeah I'm not exactly optimistic. Just release it on Vita and 3DS. I love Super Meat Boy so much I'd have no problem buying it again to have it on a handheld.....that has buttons.

I am taking a programming course for mobile devices and the thing that sucks is iOS requires Objective-C while Android requires Java and Windows Phone requires Silverlight/C#. As a developer, it sucks having to basically re-write every application that you want to work on more than one OS, especially since iOS is the safest in terms of getting an app sold but uses the worst programming language of the three. Developing for Android is just pointless because of the fragmented ecosystem and how easy it is for people to get your app for free, and Windows Phone just doesn't have a high enough adoption rate yet. I won't blame them if they only release this for iOS because it's just too much work to make it for the other two with how little of a return they'd get.

@ABEzilla116 What are you talking about? They won't let the Binding of Isaac on the 3DS, not SMB. The reason is that BoI wasn't submitted to the ESRB so it is an unrated title. Team Meat was going to have SMB on 3DS but they decided to bin it in favor of working on a new game instead.

I really love SMB but I think League of Evil still does the job alright.

I am interested to see what control scheme they come up with. League of Evil on iOS is very similar to Super Meat Boy and controls very well through the use of a virtual d-pad.
