Mario's influence within the gaming world can hardly be matched, even on mobile. Apple recently released its charts for 2017, and Super Mario Run happens to take the crown in two of the lists.

Super Mario Run released at the end of 2016 on December 15. Since then, it has netted over 200 million downloads. Now it sits at the top of the top 20 free iPhone and iPad games lists. The charts are based on total downloads from the initial download/sale of each app.

While it dominates both the free app lists on iPhone and iPad, it didn't take home the Editor's pick for best game. The best iPhone game went to Spitter Critters, and best iPad game went to The Witness.

If you haven't already had a chance to play Super Mario Run, you can check out our thoughts on it here. But even with how wildly successful the game seems to have been, it didn't profit as well as Nintendo thought it would.
