Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League might be set in the same universe as the Batman Arkham games, but it works entirely differently when it comes to gameplay. You have the choice of playing Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League as a solo player or up to four-player co-op, with all of your friends able to pick a different character from the squad. However, getting co-op working can be a hassle, and you might also have questions about how cross-play works. This guide will answer all of your questions about playing solo, multiplayer, and how all of this intertwines with cross-play in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

How cross-play works in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League

First up, let's go over exactly how the cross-play system works. Fortunately for players with friends on different platforms, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League features fully functioning cross-play and cross-progression systems. This means you can team up with your friends or other players on a different platform than you when trying to play in co-op. Also, with cross-progression, you can access your account's save files and progress on any available platform.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, so, for example, you can go from PC to PS5 and maintain all of your progress. However, this does mean you need to own Kill The Justice League on both platforms you're trying to play on, as the copies of the game are platform-specific. In addition to keeping your gameplay progress, you also keep all of your in-game purchases, including the battle pass.

When it comes to cross-play, you can invite or join any player with an internet connection and a Kill The Justice League account. You have to make an account before being able to play, so every player you're trying to invite or join will have one. This is how you can add them to your friends list and play together, regardless of their platform. Before you're able to invite or join your friends to a co-op game, though, you need to make it through the opening tutorial section of the game. Then, you can set your game settings to either be "Open to Public," "Open to Friends," or "Invite Only."

If you choose the first or second options, your friends can freely join your game as long as you have them added to your friends list. Of course, having your game open to the public means any random player can also join. The latter option requires you to specifically invite your friends to your lobby from the friends list. When any of your friends or other players join your lobby, they can select their characters and start roaming Metropolis with you.

How to play solo and multiplayer

Now that you're acquainted with how cross-play works, you can go about getting into the gameplay. If you're looking to only play with one or two other players in your lobby, then I would set your game settings to "Invite Only." This way, you can control how many players are in your game at all times.

I would also suggest all of your friends start at the same point as you in the story. However, anyone can join your game regardless of where you or they are in the campaign. So even if you're near the end of the story, your friends who may only have a couple hours of playtime can join. Regardless of when you and other players in your lobby start playing, though, everyone has to pick a character. You are free to switch characters outside of combat as well, but you can also keep your character for the entire playthrough if you wish.

The most important element to remember when trying to get a multiplayer lobby together is everyone needs to have an active internet connection. Kill The Justice League is currently an online-only game, so even if you only have one other person in your game, both of you need to be online, as there's no couch co-op mode.

The same goes for any solo player. At launch, Kill The Justice League even requires solo players to have an online connection when playing. This will eventually change in 2024 when the developers release an offline story mode, but for now, solo players need to be online. If you are planning to play solo, that's the only caveat you need to remember. You can fully experience the story of Kill The Justice League alone, so just hop in and start playing if that's your plan.
