Strategy First has signed an agreement to publish G.I. Combat: Episode I, Normandy. The 3D strategy game is in development at Freedom Games, a studio formed by part of the team that created the Close Combat series. The new game will let players take part in a series of real-time battles during World War II.

"The G.I. Combat series takes the historical accuracy of the award-winning Battleground and Campaign series from TalonSoft and the dynamic playability of the Close Combat games and elevates it to the next level," said John Davidson, president of Freedom Games. "If you like World War II, and the action of a true 3D real-time strategy game, you will love the G.I. Combat series."

Freedom Games intends the game to combine the historical accuracy of wargames with the ease of play of action games. The game will feature detailed terrain, vehicle modeling, and weapon effects, as well as a detailed character attribute system that will take into account the effects of combat on the performance of individual soldiers.

G.I. Combat is scheduled for release this summer. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game and visit the official G.I. Combat Web site.
