Steph Curry Is So Good, NBA 2K16 Will Max Out His Rating for a Limited Time

The MVP gets a (temporary) stat boost.

Steph Curry this week was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row, and he was also the unanimous winner--the first time that's ever happened. It's only right, then, that his virtual counterpart can live up to his name.

Under Armour and 2K Sports have announced plans to raise Curry's overall rating in NBA 2K16 to the highest-possible number, 99, for a limited time. Beginning at 3 PM PT on Thursday, May 12, you'll be able to enjoy Curry at the peak of his powers for 30 hours.

Overall ratings are calculated based on a player's other attributes. It's unclear exactly what about Curry is being changed, but a video Under Armour released to make the announcement proclaims this will "mak[e] him the greatest shooter in NBA 2K history." That's appropriate in light of him holding that unofficial title in the real world, as evidenced by his ability to do things like this, or the casual manner in which he set the record for most points in an overtime period earlier this week.

Curry is one of 2K16's three cover stars, along with James Harden and Anthony Davis. The game's developer has spoken previously about the challenges Curry presents due to his unbelievable shooting ability.

"To be completely honest, we are still looking for ways to better translate his game into NBA 2K," gameplay director Mike Wang said earlier this year. "He's a 'rule breaker' when it comes to jump shooting... he becomes a problem in the video game world where we've been trying to train our gamers [to know] that certain types of shots should be rewarded versus others."
