Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Is Back On, According To Patty Jenkins

Just like Emperor Palpatine, the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie might not be dead after all. That's because Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins says that she's back at work on the script for the film.

As spotted by Collider, Jenkins--who also wrote and helmed Wonder Woman 1984--said on the Talking Pictures podcast that she has an agreement with Lucasfilm for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. With Wonder Woman 3 not happening, the director says she has returned to a galaxy far, far away.

"When [Wonder Woman 3] went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, 'Oh, we gotta finish this deal.' We finished the deal right as the strike was happening," Jenkins said. "So I now owe a draft of Star Wars, and so we will see what happens there. You know, like, who knows?"

Jenkins is aware that there are three other Star Wars movies in development, with The Mandalorian & Grogu coming out first in 2026. However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that Rogue Squadron could come back in some form almost a year ago. Kennedy mentioned the project could be a film or possibly a series for Disney+.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was announced in December 2020, but the project was then reportedly shelved in March 2023 alongside a movie from Marvel boss Kevin Feige.

The Rogue Squadron name might be best remembered as a trilogy of video games that launched from 1998 to 2003 from developer Factor 5. There has even been talk of porting the space combat series to modern consoles as recently as 2022.
