According to Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy, the upcoming standalone Star Wars movie, Gareth Edward's Rogue One, will explore the "galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective." Now a selection of costume designs have been revealed at the Nuremberg Toy Fair that suggest that visually, this is very much the direction the movie is going in. Check them out below, via EW:

These images provide a better look at the costumes worn by the cast in the only official image released from the movie to date. In August, cast member Donnie Yen tweeted some quickly deleted images of new Imperial helmets that would feature in the movie--check them out here.

Rogue One is set before the original Star Wars, and focuses upon a group of mercenaries who are hired to capture the plans to the Death Star. The cast also includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen.

With The Force Awakens still performing well in cinemas, relatively little additional information has been released about Rogue One, even though its release is less than eleven months away. The have been rumours that Darth Vader and Grand Moff Tarkin might appear, as well as new Imperial soldiers known as Death Troopers, but nothing has to date been confirmed.

Last week, creature effects supervisor Neal Scanlan explained that the aliens in Rogue One would move and interact more "realistically" with the human characters than in The Force Awakens. "They're a closer part of the storytelling," he said. "Gareth sees these aliens as being much more part of the human [world]. They co-habitate, they work together, and so it's pushed us very much to create characters that are more realistic."

Star Wars: Rogue One will hit cinemas on December 16, 2016.
