Star Wars Galaxies release date confirmed

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that the massively multiplayer online RPG, Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided will be released on April 15, 2003. Star Wars Galaxies lets players take on the role of one of several different types of characters from the Star Wars universe in an online multiplayer setting similar to that of Everquest.

"Through the launch of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided this spring, which we liken to that of a blockbuster movie opening, LucasArts will deliver on its promise to transform online gaming into mainstream entertainment," said Simon Jeffery, president of LucasArts. "We are extremely confident about the long term strength of the Star Wars Galaxies brand and its potential to redefine online gaming."

Sony Online Entertainment will continue to expand on the game after its release, offering expansion that will let players explore and engage in combat in space. We'll have more on the game as it approaches its spring release.
