Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Adds Another Iconic Hero Next Week

Obi-Wan joins the fight.

Star Wars: Battlefront II might not have had the best launch, but EA and developer DICE continue to support the multiplayer shooter with new content. The next big update is coming next week, and it adds one of the Star Wars franchise's biggest names.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is coming to Battlefront II on November 26. In terms of his abilities, Obi-Wan wields a lightsaber that he can use to deflect other lightsabers and blasters. And because he has a bigger stamina pool than other characters, he can deflect oncoming attacks more effectively.

Obi-Wan also has an ability called All-Out Push. This releases a "powerful Force blast" directly in front of him that damages enemies and psychically pushes them backwards. You can hold down the All-Out Push button to increase the ability's range and power.

Another of Obi-Wan's abilities is Defensive Rush, which sees Obi-Wan pushing forward fast while swinging his lightsaber and deflecting attacks and damaging oncoming enemies. Obi-Wan also has an ability called Restrictive Mind Trick, which disrupts all enemy abilities. Additionally, it prevents players from dodging.

Obi-Wan also has a number of Star Cards that players can use to buff their statistics. Some of these include Jedi Resilience (increases health generation), Jedi General (regains 20 health after defeating enemy), and Think It Over (increases the time of Restricted Mind Trick effects on enemies). You can see a full rundown of Obi-Wan's Star Cards here on the Battlefront website.

Some of Obi-Wan's voice lines include "Let the negotiations begin" and the wonderful "You want to go home and rethink your life." He'll also say, "Ugh--like bathing in a lake of venom-mites" and "Hello there."

There are two different versions of Obi-Wan at launch. His default is based on his appearance from Episode III, while a second one shows him in his Jedi robes. That one costs 40,000 credits or 1,000 Crystals, and it'll arrive sometime in December.

Looking ahead, Battlefront II will add another new character, Dooku, in January 2019, while Anakin is coming in February alongside an unannounced new game mode. Later that year, DICE will add even more content to Battlefront II, but it hasn't been announced yet.

Obi-Wan comes to Battlefront II in the Battle for Geonosis update, and DICE will share more details about everything coming in the patch next week, so check back later for that.

@blitxxx1981: I agree that I’d much rather have Ewan’s version. However, I wouldn’t be opposed to them adding an alternate cosmetic of Sir Alec Guinness’s, Old Obi-wan. I’d much rather them do that than make it an entirely separate character.

@revanxknight: I agree as well: I love both Young Ewan and Elder Alec :-P But I rather have the Ewan as the base model.

I'm thinking they will make an alternative skin of elder Obi instead of old Obi as a separate character, like the several Han Solo outfits they already have for his single character (including the young, Classic, the ESB, the old Smuggler with beard, and a couple of more). I just don't want to keep paying tons for all of the different versions

They've done an admirable job of overhauling the progression system so it's not quite as atrociously pay-to-win as it was at launch, but the DLC support has been very minimal.

Game has been out for a full year and so far they've added just 1 new map and 1 new hero. This update will make 2 of each.

Hope BFV doesn't get this sort of treatment

EA can make Jesus playable with a lightcross, that will not make me buy their games. Never.

@Barighm: It has acquired a “cult-like” playerbase like For Honor. Honestly, I play it every once in a while. It’s not as bad as it was at launch but it’s still tainted from the development choices that plagued it’s launch. However, the development of post launch content is unnecessarily long.

@revanxknight: I think one reason for long delayed content is that they want to carry it in to Episode 9... EA is still banking off Crystal packs, etc which would be more warranting for them than going ahead and doing a SW BF 3 when they can wait for Epidose 9 to come to just build new levels, characters, and skins

LEGO didn't even make a "Last Jedi" game but they did a good one for "Force Awakens". If I remember correctly besides SW BF 2, PinballFX was the only game that had anything to do with TLJ and it was just 2 tables (Solo had 3 tables).

I suppose there wasn't enough "game material" from TLJ to build games from...

@blitxxx1981: I agree. I’m sure they intend to support the game through Episode 9. It’s just disappointing to see so much time wasted on rather minimal content. There are plenty of other AAA dev’s out there who deliver substantial content updates for their games in the same amount of time it took them to release Geonosis, General Greivous and Obi-wan Kenobi. I understand they had to rip out and replace the progression system (which was very necessary) but it’s still unacceptable. Then again, we’re talking about EA here so it’s not like anyone should be surprised.

I guess my primary grievance with the game is the fact that there is so much potential but little to no effort made. And that EA has exclusivity. So much time wasted with the license when other non-EA dev’s could have been making, potentially, fantastic games. I suppose we’ll see what the future brings. I can say I’m looking forward to learning more about Respawn Entertainments Star Wars game though.
