Star Wars 7 Features a Jedi Cameo You Might Have Missed

Director JJ Abrams has confirmed that Obi Wan Kenobi's voice is part of the sequence in which Rey experiences a Force-induced flashback after finding Luke's lightsaber. And not only is it the wise old Jedi master speaking, both the actors who have portrayed the character--Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor--can be heard.

"We asked Ewan McGregor to come in and do the line," Abrams told Entertainment Weekly. "And he was awesome and we were very grateful. He was incredibly sweet and handsome, and all that stuff. Then he rode off on his motorcycle. Literally the coolest voiceover actor ever."

As for the the late Guinness, who died in 2000, he speaks a single word--"Rey"-- which was taken from a longer word by Bryan Burk, one of the films producers. "I said, 'That's cool, is that the thing from Ewan McGregor?'" Abrams explained. "He said 'No, we took a line from Alec Guinness saying 'Afraid.'"

"They cut it, and you hear the performance--he's saying it the way I would have begged Alec Guinness to have said it. It is so crazy perfect," Abrams says. "So when you hear Obi-Wan talk to Rey it is both Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor doing the voice."

Last week it was revealed that James Bond star Daniel Craig also makes a cameo in The Force Awakens, playing a Stormtrooper with a single line of dialogue.
