Sonic Team reveals Sonic cell phone game

Sonic Team has confirmed that it will release Sonic the Hedgehog for iMode cell phones in Japan. The side-scroller action game remains true to the original Sonic games, where players collect rings while avoiding traps and enemies to reach the goal point. The game can be downloaded free of charge from June 18 to July 31. An unannounced fee will be charged after that date. The iMode service is NTT DoCoMo's mobile Internet access system, and it boasts more than 20 million subscribers in Japan as of March 2001. Sega will release additional games for iMode, including a version of the classic arcade hit Out Run.
