Smite's big 3.17 update has arrived for Xbox One and PS4 today, kicking off this year's Odyssey, adding a new game mode, and more.

As we previously reported, the new mode is Smite's first proper cooperative mode. Xing Tian's Mountain puts teams of five in what amounts to an MMO-style raid where you fight waves of enemies and bosses. You start at level 13 with 7500 gold, leveling up and purchasing items from there as you fight a series of random encounters. There's a time limit for each, and you'll face increasingly difficult foes as you advance. Sadly, this is only available for a limited time.

Now Playing: SMITE - 3.17 Console Patch Overview

The other major component of 3.17 is the Odyssey. This annual event will see new content released every other week until the Smite World Championship early next year. Purchasing this content or completing special quests earns you Odyssey Points, which can then be used to unlock more stuff.

3.17 brings the first batch of Odyssey content, including an excellent robotic samurai skin for Susano and a fox skin for Amaterasu. You can see these and the other new, non-Odyssey skins from this update in the gallery below.

There are also new achievements/trophies, with two each for Geb, He Bo, and the newest character, Izanami. Numerous balance changes have been made as well, including a buff for Izanami, a nerf for Ravana, and tweaks to the boots available for purchase.

You can read more about all of that in our previous coverage, or check out the full patch notes on Smite's website.
