The classic RPG The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim has already been ported to just about every platform including Amazon Alexa, and now it's venturing to yet another new format: a board game. The cooperative narrative game is coming in 2022 from board game maker Modiphius Entertainment.

Polygon reports that the designer board game will feature narrative adventure scenarios, one of which will even serve as a prequel to the main story in the 2011 video game. The tabletop game will support 1-4 players taking part in campaigns that last roughly 90-120 minutes. Players will pick from one of six characters based on the fantasy races found in Elder Scrolls, with their own sets of powers and affinities. Those races include Altmer, Dunmer, Imperial, Khajiit, Nord, and Orsimer. In addition to single-play sessions, players can also take part in two longer campaigns that take place across three chapters.

Now Playing: Elder Scrolls 6 Is Still Years Away & Mafia 2 Remaster Rumours

To play the game, you'll use a deck of roughly 600 cards, and subsequent expansions could grow that to roughly 700. The deck will shift as you play different scenarios, shuffling in and removing certain cards and creating a story of your campaign and the decisions you made.

A crowdfunding campaign is underway on Gamefound, which proposes a base game tier of £82 ($112) or a £140 ($190) version with the Dawnguard and From the Ashes expansions. Modiphius says the final retail version will target around £100 ($137). Though not available yet, the company is also planning a $300 deluxe version that includes the expansions plus plastic miniatures, metal Septim coin counters, and a neoprene game mat.

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Bethesda RPG. A Skyrim anniversary edition is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X on November 11 to mark the occasion. Bethesda has also announced the long-awaited sequel, Elder Scrolls 6, though that project appears to be years away.
