Skater XL Noseslides Onto PC, PS4, Xbox One, And Switch This July

If you're in the market for a skateboarding game, you haven't exactly had an embarrassment of options, especially on console. That's set to change this summer, when the well-regarded PC skating game Skater XL will come to PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One on July 7 as a digital release. Additionally, there will be physical copies of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

Like its fellow PC Early Access rival Session, Skater XL falls closer to the simulation side of things as embodied by the long-dormant Skate series rather than the arcade action of genre pioneer Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Skater XL will allow you to lace up as four playable real-world skaters, including Tiago Lemos, Evan Smith, Tom Asta, and Brandon Westgate, as well as providing the option to build your own.

Following in the footsteps of Skate, the game focuses heavily on the culture surrounding skateboarding, giving you options to make zines, personal highlight reels, and even your own in-game brand. It also includes real-world skate brands, including New Balance, Enjoi, and Grizzly.

While Skater XL might serve as a stopgap, die-hard fans are still pushing for a hypothetical Skate 4. EA hasn't abandoned the trademark for the game, but unfortunately there's no indication that the series is coming back anytime soon. According to a recent appearance on a podcast by pro skater Jason Dill, EA might be planning to bring Skate 3 onto mobile consoles, but there's no official word on Skate 4.
