Shox now in stores

Electronic Arts announces that its new rally game for the PS2 has shipped to stores nationwide.

Electronic Arts has today announced that Shox has shipped to stores in North America, around two weeks later than was originally scheduled. The arcade-style racer, which is the latest addition to the EA Sports Big lineup, allows players to drive 24 different licensed vehicles, including models from Porsche, Toyota, BMW, Subaru, and Ford.

In the single-player mode, six cars compete simultaneously, but the game also supports split-screen play for up to four racers. Perhaps the most unique feature of the game is the fact that players pass through three checkpoints on each lap and are awarded a bronze, silver, or gold rating according to their time. Achieving gold ratings in all three sections of a circuit in a single race opens up secret vehicles and the like.

Shox was developed by Electronic Arts in the UK, where it has been available since September. There's been no news on the previously announced GameCube version of the game. For more information, check out our previous coverage of Shox for the PS2.
