Preorders For A New Nintendo Switch-Exclusive Dungeon Crawler Are Live

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island releases February 27.

The wandering adventurer Shiren will strike out on his next dungeon-crawling adventure with Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island, which launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch on February 27. Fans of the long-running dungeon crawler series can get a fun preorder bonus by ordering early.

And since Shiren the Wanderer is more of a niche series in North America, it stands to reason the print run for the physical edition will probably be fairly small. If you're interested in the game, securing your copy ahead of launch could be a good idea.

While not strictly a preorder bonus per se, the first printing of Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island will include a limited-run sticker featuring Shiren drawn in the game's traditional Japanese ink art style in the box. The sticker will also be available in launch copies of the game, but only while supplies last--preordering guarantees your copy will include one.

Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island is the sixth entry in the Shiren the Wanderer series, which stands as one of the best dungeon crawler franchises of all time, and a standout among Spike Chunsoft's many mystery dungeon sub-series.

Like previous titles, players control Shiren as he adventures through procedurally-generated, multi-floor dungeons filled with monsters, loot, and hidden traps. Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island maintains the classic turn-based gameplay, grid-based movement, and steep difficulty of other mystery dungeon games and traditional roguelikes. They're tough games, but the Shiren series is known for its characters and storylines that keep you motivated to push forward even after falling to an enemy deep in the dungeon and restarting your run from zero. This time around, Shiren and his talking weasel sidekick Koppa are on a mission to rescue a girl from the monster- and pirate-infested Serpentcoil Island.

If you're new to the series and want to give other Shiren titles a shot, the previous game Shiren The Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate is available on the Switch eShop and Steam.
