Shippin' Out Sept. 27-Oct. 3: PSP Go, Gran Turismo PSP, Dead Space Extraction

New handheld joins portable racer, Wii horror survivor, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga, Fallout 3 PS3 DLC, MySims Agents, and Beaterator.

In May 2004, Sony and Polyphony Digital announced that they were developing a PSP version of Gran Turismo. More than five years later, the 60fps-graphics game is finally coming out in North America, both solo and in a $200 bundle with a silver PSP-3000, a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, and vouchers for a downloadable movie and in-game Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

Curiously, the Gran Turismo PSP bundle won't go on sale until October 20, 19 days after the launches of the game itself and the PSP Go. Priced at $249.99--the same price as the original PSP when it went on sale in 2005--the new handheld will feature 16GB of flash memory and a screen that slides over the controls. It will have a 3.8-inch screen--versus the PSP-3000's 4.3-inch screen--and will be 43 percent lighter than the original, but it will not have a UMD drive. Despite promises of a "solution" by Sony, current North American PSP owners will not get free digital copies of their UMDs to play on the PSP Go. (UK PSP owners will be able to download three games from a restricted list.) For a closer look at the PSP Go, check out GameSpot's unboxing of the portable below.

Wii-wagglers will get a bit of a fright this week in the form of Dead Space Extraction. The Wii-exclusive prequel chronicles the viscera-spattered tragedy that led to the otherworldly carnage of last year's critically acclaimed horror-survival game Dead Space. The game also trades in the over-the-shoulder third-person point of view for a first-person shooter scheme, which sees players blast foes with the Wii Remote, House of the Dead: Overkill-style.

PlayStation 3 owners will get a chance to step into the split-toe tabi of Ryu Hayabusa in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. The reworked version of Ninja Gaiden II will feature less violence than its dismembering, decapitating Xbox 360 sibling, released last year to good reviews. However, it will add femme fatales imported from Tecmo's Dead or Alive series and an upgraded graphics engine. The M for Mature-rated game will come a la carte or via a $70 Collector's Edition bundled with an 80-page book with three parts: a strategy guide, a section with "vibrant Ninja Gaiden art," and a comic book that matches the storyline.

Rounding out the week's releases are Rockstar Games' Beaterator for the PSP, which also will get Sony's racer MotorStorm Arctic Edge. Electronic Arts looses its latest Sims creation, the cuddly espionage-themed MySims Agents, onto the Wii and DS, the latter of which will also receive Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

Speaking of the Wii, Xseed gives Nintendo's console some exclusive action RPG business in the form of Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga. And last but definitely not least for PS3 owners, Bethesda Softworks releases two of its formerly Xbox 360- and PC-exclusive expansion packs for Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage and The Pitt. The Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition--which has all five expansions--ships October 13 for the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.

Seems like the new PSP should be cheaper since everything you play on it is DLC. There's no packaging costs, no shipping costs... that savings needs to be passed on to the gamers. I know Sony's hurting these days, but so is everyone else. Sony made a huge step foward with the new PS3 price point. This $250 PSP isn't adding to that momentum.

@tonicmole: Agree with pretty much what you said...well except for remote play sucking. Remote play is awesome, even if it wasn't, if it didn't have that feature(which i see as a plus not a necessity,) it(remote play) wouldn't be there to be complained about.

So the PSP Go has a smaller screen, no UMB drive, can only play the few games released on the PSN, will never be able to play all my PSP games I have now, costs $250, has the same crappy controls, isn't the DS, remote play still sucks...........It sounds like a terrible deal, oh wait, no, I see, it's lighter!

But psp go will be in good quality and have plenty of new stuff for it when it comes out. and people if you dont wanna buy it then dont, so just stfu. They never said you had to buy it, its just an option so stop complaining ya bunch of babies

To be honest, if you haven't got a PSP, and you want one, don't bother with the PSP Go. Get the PSP-3000 instead. It's got more features, has full UMD support, and it's a whole lot cheaper as well.

im very excited about Risen. i loved Gothic 3 (despite many not actually liking the 2rd iteration of Gothic) and Gothic 2. This is the same developers and if theyve eliminated some of the bad points from their new game (stun locking ftl!) ill be incredibly happy.

if you want the UMD just get the slim psp, if you want an ipod get the psp Go. why? because they made it to function like an Ipod and with the psp games that you can download. did you understand where i am going? the pspgo is not mainly a gaming system, but you still can play games with it (if you want an ipod get the Go)

Hmmm.. a smaller screen size, no UMD slot, and priced as the original from years ago at $250---yea, that's such a great marketting gimmick. You'd be a fool to want to get the PSP Go at launch when you know it will drop in price from that ridiculous starting point. Unless SONY is phasing out UMDs, then the GO is the way to go, but otherwise, there is no reason for anyone to even consider it.

There has been little to no marketing for the PSPgo. Good job Sony, you have copied just about everything from the 360 with exception of a cross game party chat why not just copy Microsoft's attempt to copy Apple's marketing. Feature cute little asian girls trying to explain something as complicated as Windows 7 in children words or in other words a way us Americans can understand why we would want to buy the system. Since the PSP can do downloadable games, its cheaper, with UMD drive, and comes in different bundles and colors why should we buy the PSP go. Sony has pumped alot of money into reviving the PSP system to get 3rd party to develop games for it (which hasn't worked out well Soulcalibur and Dissdia only doing 130k), where is the money for marketing the system. Out of the major three companies Sony by far frustrates me the most, they have some of the best opportunities and they waste it with poor marketing, comercials that don't make sense or tell you a single bit of what its about (sorry your no Apple), horrible timing this is a recession, and CEOs pointing out the wrong things in public announcements. I'm sorry I wasn't aware there was a market of people who would like to take the reds out of people's eyes in pictures with their PS3 which Sony cameras and computer software does and then force me to update my firmware on my PS3 just to play a game online.

Is it just me, or does the PSP Go look extremely awkward to play on? It's too small to get a good grip... Unless you're 4 years old. But really, I was about to get it, but since there's no UMD transfer... it's not gonna happen. Might buy the 3000 instead, if/when I get the money, since PSP is getting awesome games this year. But overall this is a very good week. Kingdom Hearts, Ninja Gaiden, Gran Turismo... Just amazing - but November's gonna be even better!

So let me get this right... the PSP Go has a smaller screen, no UMD drive, no ability to play your old games without you repurchasing/downloading them, and it costs $50 more than the upcoming PSP3000 bundle which includes a memory stick, game, free downloadable movie, and in-game extras. Wow. Well. I guess this is going to be a tough decision. What the hell are they thinking. I guess this is Sony doing what they do best - screwing up the selling price. Long live the tradition!

The PSP-Go is not for most. It's for those who want to go "all digital", meaning, no UMD's to carry around. It's also for those who travel constantly, which is why it is made much smaller. It seems perfect for those who fly a lot; no need to carry around UMD's on the plane, much more smaller to fit in pockets, etc. It's true for $50 bucks more you can get a PS3 Slim, but I really think Sony expects most of the buyers of PSP-Go to be digital savy customers, and/or constant travelers. So take it easy with the Sony bashing. People who use their PSP's mostly at home won't need the PSP-Go. But people who are constantly on the "Go" may want it, regardless of price.

To the guy who said the point of the Go is that Sony wants your money, well hey genius they all want your money! Neither Sony, Microsoft nor Nintendo are making game consoles or hand helds because they think youre a nice guy and want to help you out. Its a business and they want to get as much of your money as they possibly can.
