Illinois-based game developer Vae Victis has unveiled its upcoming tactical action game--currently code-named Shadow--according to a post on gaming news site Shacknews. The game is being built on the Torque game engine, which was used to power Sierra's team-based action game Tribes 2. It is set in a variety of modern real-world locations, and players will assume the role of a soldier in one of 10 different elite forces from around the world, including the US Navy SEALs, the UK SAS, and the Russian Spetsnaz.

Shadow will feature battles in both interior and exterior environments that will give players a mix of long-range and close-quarters action. The game will feature more than 50 real-world weapons that can be customized, as well as up to 15 types of vehicles that players will be able to use. The developers are also adding new technical features to the Torque engine, including new movement abilities, improved visual effects, and real-time lighting that lets players shoot out lights and use flashlights and headlights to their advantage. Vae Victis also plans to include a game editor that will let players create custom maps, models, missions, and game types.

The developer has also released some early screenshots and concept images from the game, which we've posted in the gallery above. No official release date or publisher for Shadow has been announced. For more information, visit the official Vae Victis Web site.
