Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who co-wrote the original movie, said in a statement that 2016's Sausage Party represented the pinnacle of what could be achieved in film, so they turned their attention to TV.

"Now that film is completely dead and TV is the forever-king of entertainment, we've decided to continue the epic adventures of our culinary crew in the soon-to-be-legendary televised masterpiece Sausage Party: Foodtopia," they said. "It's got all the heart, double the puns, and triple the food-on-food sex. In other words, it's exactly what the world needs right now."

Prime Video didn't share any details on the story, saying with a wink, that plot details are "being kept firmly under wrappers."

Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter, who co-wrote the 2016 movie with Rogen and Goldberg, are executive producers and showrunners for Foodtopia. Sausage Party co-director Conrad Vernon is returning as well in a supervising director role.

Sausage Party tells the story of grocery store food that discovers the horror of what happens at home. The movie made more than $140 million at the box office against a budget of $19 million, making it among the most commercially successful R-rated animated films in history.
