Croteam and Devolver Digital aren't kidding around with Serious Sam 3: BFE's release date any more. After months of a vague (and ultimately inaccurate) "summer" release window, the developers got serious today, nailing down an October 18 release date for the PC version of their new first-person shooter. No updated release information was provided for the console versions of the game.

The companies also offered details on new preorder incentives for the game. Those who preorder through Steam will receive a Devolver CFO Fork Parker multiplayer skin and a 10 percent discount on the game to start with, plus an additional 10 percent off if they already own a previous Serious Sam game through the service. A Serious Deluxe edition is also available for $50. The extra $10 in that case will pay for a digital art book; new multiplayer skins; a scope for the game's Devastator weapon; and downloadable versions of the original two Serious Sam games, The First Encounter and The Second Encounter.

A prequel to Serious Sam: The First Encounter, BFE takes place in 22nd-century Egypt amid a collapsing civilization beset by unearthly beasts. The game sees the return of the series' signature adversaries like the Headless Kamikaze and Gnaar, as well as new opponents going by names like Scrapjack and Khnum.

Serious Sam 3's gameplay also features a number of additions, with Sam in particular getting an assortment of new melee moves. Additionally, up to 16 players at a time are able to play through the game's cooperative campaign mode.
