We may have seen the last of the current incarnation of the main X-Men movies, but there is plenty in the franchise to come. New Mutants is expected to start production in the first half of next year, and new storyboard animatics have been released. They show the teen heroes battling the fearsome Demon Bear--check it out below, via Coming Soon:

New Mutants is to be directed by Josh Boone, who took to Twitter to confirm the authenticity of the storyboards, stating that they were illustrated by artist Ashley Guillory. While Demon Bear won't necessarily feature in the movie, the animatic suggests that it's a possibility. The creature first appeared in the third issue of The New Mutants in 1983, and is a supernatural, teleporting bear who draws his power from negative human emotion.

Coming Soon's sources also state that the movie will be a departure from the more traditional superhero action of the other X-Men films, describing it more as a teen horror movie. This ties into comments made earlier in the year by X-Men producer Simon Kinberg, who said that it would have "its own unique, original voice."

Boone previously directed the hugely successful teen drama The Fault in our Stars. While no cast has been officially announced yet, the young stars expected to appear include Anya-Taylor Joy (The Witch), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), and Nat Wolff, who starred in The Fault in our Stars, and will be seen next year in the much-anticipated movie adaptation of classic anime Death Note.

This week, Fox announced the release date for two more movies featuring the Marvel superheroes, but didn't title them. New Mutants is expected to be one of these, alongside Deadpool 2.
