Sea of Thieves is headed to PS5 on April 30, and the game is currently sitting near the top of the US preorder charts for that platform. The premium edition for Sea of Thieves is one of the best-selling preorders currently, beating other games like the upcoming Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The game's standard edition is also high on the list and is the seventh-most-preordered game at the time of writing. Interestingly, Sea of Thieves was the best-selling preorder on the PlayStation Store--according to Benji Sales--before MLB The Show 24 usurped its position.

Developed by Rare, Sea of Thieves is coming to PS5 as a digital-only release. It's one of several games Microsoft plans to release on other platforms, as Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded will also be coming to PlayStation and Switch. Pentiment, Obsidian Entertainment's intricate game of stories and parchment, was the first title to be released on new platforms outside of Xbox Series and PC this year.

New features for the PS5 edition of Sea of Thieves include cross-play support and haptic feedback via the PlayStation DualSense controller. All platforms will continue to receive simultaneous updates for Sea of Thieves.

Rare also teased more content for the game recently, including a new loadout weapon for the first time since the game's launch in 2018, and for more details you can check out GameSpot's Sea of Thieves feature on the future of the game as it charts a new course forward.
