Scorsese's Next Big Movie Killers Of The Flower Moon Begins Production In Oklahoma

Following his Netflix movie The Irishman, Martin Scorsese has now begun production on his next giant movie, Killers of the Flower Moon. Cameras have begun rolling on what writer Eric Roth has said is "one for the ages." The movie is set to premiere on Apple TV+.

Scorsese said in a statement that he's happy to be able to film Killers of the Flower Moon in Oklahoma, where the murderous events of the movie take place.

The film is set in 1920s Oklahoma during a time when the Osage Nation Native American tribe found oil under their homeland. After this discovery, high-ranking members of the Native American group were murdered one by one. The story is based on real events and is adapted from the book by David Grann.

"We are thrilled to finally start production on Killers of the Flower Moon in Oklahoma. To be able to tell this story on the land where these events took place is incredibly important and critical to allowing us to portray an accurate depiction of the time and people," Scorsese said (via Collider). "We're grateful to Apple, the Oklahoma Film and Music Office, and The Osage Nation, especially all our Osage consultants and cultural advisors, as we prepare for this shoot. We're excited to start working with our local cast and crew to bring this story to life on screen and immortalize a time in American history that should not be forgotten."

Killers of the Flower Moon is said to have a budget of around $200 million, making it one of the more expensive films ever to be made.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Jesse Plemons star in the movie, which doesn't have a release date yet. The cast also includes the singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson, among others.

Killers of the Flower Moon is just the latest high-profile movie headed exclusively to Apple TV+. The company also recently announced the Brie Larson series Lessons in Chemistry, while Ridley Scott's Napoleon Bonaparte movie starring Joaquin Phoenix is also set up at Apple. The Will Smith slavery movie Emancipation is also coming to Apple TV+.
