Actress Scarlett Johansson has said she is "done" with Marvel, saying on fellow Marvel actress Gwyneth Paltrow's podcast recently that she is not going to come back to play Black Widow again. She also commented on being one of the few women in The Avengers, saying that film felt like a "big sausage party."

Johnasson made her debut as Black Widow in 2010's Iron Man 2 and played the character numerous times over the years in other MCU films. Black Widow died in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, but all the multiverse madness had some people believing Black Widow could appear again, in a different timeline.

"I'm done," Johansson said on Paltrow's Goop podcast of her future in the MCU (via Variety). "Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience."

Paltrow, for her part, played Pepper Potts in the first MCU movie, Iron Man, and reprised the role multiple times. Would she come back for another Marvel movie? Paltrow said because Potts did not die, she could theoretically come back. "They can always ask me," Paltrow said.

Also in the interview, Johansson commented on being one of a small handful of women with a major role in The Avengers. "When I did Avengers I was one of the few [women]… it was like a big sausage party," she said.

2012's The Avengers featured Johansson playing Black Widow once again as a member of the super-group also made up of many men, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Brie Larson's Captain Marvel joined The Avengers later on in the films. Other women who have been featured prominently in MCU movies post-2012's Avengers have included Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, and Gemma Chan as Sersi, among others.

Finally, Johansson and Paltrow said reports about any clashes between the two women on Iron Man 2 are not true. Johansson said Paltrow was "so nice" to her on the set of the movie.

In addition to the team-up MCU movies, Johansson headlined the 2021 movie Black Widow. Johansson and her legal team sued Disney over the film's combined theatrical and streaming release on Disney Plus. She eventually settled for a reported $40 million.

The next MCU movie is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which releases in May.
