Rush Hour 4 Is Happening

The long-rumored Rush Hour 4 is still very much a possibility, star Jackie Chan revealed at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. According to Deadline, Chan told a festival crowd in an on-stage appearance that "we're talking about Rush Hour 4 [happening] right now."

Chan didn't reveal who might direct the next film in the franchise, but Brett Ratner directed all three previous entries. Ratner stepping in to direct would be significant, both because he hasn't helmed a movie since 2014--and also because in 2017, during the Me Too movement, six women, including Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge, accused Ratner of sexual assault and harassment. Warner Bros. subsequently cut all ties with the producer-director.

Chan and Chris Tucker play mismatched police officers in the Rush Hour series. The first movie came out in 1998, with sequels following in 2001 and 2007. At the festival, Chan recalls how he was first drafted into the film series, initially thinking Rush Hour would flop. "I got a phone call [after the first movie debuted]," Chan said, "Brett Ratner and Chris Tucker call me from New York. They're crazy. We were $70 million in the first weekend."

The martial artist-actor also talked about his desire going forward in his career to make fewer action films and more films about relationships. "In the old days we used to go out partying, but now my ambition is to become the good Jackie Chan," Chan said.
